Guangzhou’s most popular Oktoberfest will be bigger and better than ever this year. The fun‐filled celebration, which will be held from September 16 through September 26, will move to a great new location ‐ the Tianhe Sports Center. Located in the heart of the city, the Sports Center is the perfect place for holding Oktoberfest. Situated at Guangzhou’s economic and transportation hub, Tianhe is easily accessible from all parts of the city.

The 11th annual Oktoberfest will be celebrated under a big white and blue tent, covering 1,800 square meters ‐ providing much more room than in past years. The tent can accommodate more than 800 guests. Those attendees will be able to partake in traditional Oktoberfest activities featuring Bavarian folk customs, folk music and traditional costumes. And, of course, free‐flowing German beer and authentic German buffet will be the true highlights of the festival.

The Münchner Musikanten Band once again will electrify the gala party with its spirited music. Attendees can count on the vibrant, gregarious and passionate band to present hilarious shows and rollicking music. Climb up on stage, clap your hands, dance on the tables and sing aloud, swinging your mugs of beer with friends and other celebrants. The upbeat and hearty Bavarian spirit has never been more authentic than here in Guangzhou!

In October 2004, Guangdong Province signed a friendly relations agreement with Bavaria, Germany. That pact laid the foundation for the establishment of Guangzhou Oktoberfest. For a decade now, each Oktoberfest has built upon the previous year’s success, leading to grander and more festive events each year. The first festival was held on the drive way of the China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel. Then we moved to the Jinhan exhibition center and later to the FTC center in Liuhua lu. This year we decided to raise the event to a higher level, moving to Tianhe with its larger space and greater accessibility. We are pleased each year to bring German culture to the people of Guangzhou with our partners ‐ the German Chamber of Commerce in South & Southwest China, the German Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Lingnan Group and the Guangdong Tourism Association (which is joining us for the first time). With their support, the 11th Oktoberfest reaches a new and exciting plateau, providing more opportunities for guests to get to know more about authentic German culture and experience the exultant beer festival.

The origin of Oktoberfest was the wedding celebration of Bavarian Prince Ludwig and his bride Therese in 1810. The festivities were in a huge Munich meadow and went on for days. The festival ended with horse races, which all of Bavaria was invited to see. As a result, over 40,000 guests showed up to unknowingly take part in what was to become the world’s largest beer festival.

One more special surprise of Guangzhou’s 11th Oktoberfest will be an outdoor carnival set beside the Oktoberfest tent. The carnival will offer various types of entertainment, more Oktoberfest activities and games. Guests can come with their families to enjoy a relaxing weekend and experience the German culture.

So now is the time to call up your friends, family, clients and colleagues to join you for an animated evening of German singing, toasting and dancing! Brush up on your German, bring your appetite, grab your lederhosen and dirndls and experience the spirit of Oktoberfest here in the middle of Guangzhou!
