KLM announces that Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Xiamen are the first three Chinese destinations added to the list of KLM new Boeing 787-9 destinations. The new Boeing 787-9 service starts with the Chengdu route, beginning on March 28, 2016, then followed by Hangzhou on March 29, and Xiamen on March 30. The arrival of the new aircraft reinforces the company’s commitment to providing a best-in–class on-board travel experience for its customers in the Greater China region.
All KLM Boeing 787s will be named after flowers, a typical Dutch export product.This summer, one of the aircraft will be named “Hibiscus”, the city flower of Chengdu.
“KLM is proud to introduce our most-advanced aircraft, the Boeing 787-9, to these strategic and fast-growing destinations in China,” commented Bas Gerressen, General Manager of Air France KLM Greater China. “Today, the number of Chinese customers is around 50% and still growing. It shows our commitment to serving our Chinese customers with the best product.”
The arrival of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at the three destinations coincides with their respective anniversaries this year: the 10th anniversary for the Chengdu-Amsterdam route, the 6th anniversary for the Hangzhou-Amsterdam route, and the 5th anniversary for the Xiamen-Amsterdam route. On the day when the first Boeing 787-9 flight departs from each destination, KLM will hold celebrations at the airports with lucky draws and special gifts presented to passengers.
A new level of comfort in air travel
In the World Business Class, passengers can enjoy full flat seats, full privacy and direct access to the aisle (1-2-1 configuration). Passenger travelling in Economy Class will appreciate the new seats, which offer 40% more recline. All passengers have access to a power socket for recharging mobile devices, larger cabin windows, on board WIFI capabilities, state of the art inflight entertainment system: 16-inch screens in World Business Class, 11 inch in Economy Class, all with intuitive touch screen navigation in 12 languages including Chinese, and a system that offers significantly richer content choices.

In addition to visible features like the luxurious World Business Class seats, the state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system, bigger windows, more spacious storage bins and LED moodlights, many features might not be noticed immediately, though their impact is huge. KLM’s Smoother Ride Technology with turbulence sensors reduces the number of passengers who experience motion sickness eightfold. More pleasant cabin pressure allows the body to absorb 8% more oxygen into the blood, which results in a higher energy level and a greater feeling of wellbeing for the passenger (less “ear-popping).The dimmable windows allow passengers to regulate the intensity of light with the touch of a finger. Optimized cabin air, on top of 40% noise reduction due to new technologies, ensures a more pleasant travel experience.

KLM continuously invests in a sustainable future. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner’s fuel efficiency is 20% lower because of its lightweight structure, advanced aerodynamics, and highly efficient engines. The materials used in the aircraft are better recyclable and more eco-friendly. This also adds to a more modest ecological footprint overall.

在波音787-9梦想飞机飞抵中国之际，成都、杭州和厦门也将分别庆祝其各自航线开航10周年、6周年和5周年。相应地，在波音787-9飞机首趟航班从这三个目的地起飞当天，荷航将分别在三地的机场举行庆祝仪式，向首航乘客赠送礼物并举行抽奖活动。
