Fantastically located in the tranquil area of Shui Wan Road is Zhuhai’s “House of Wine”, The Cellar. This beautifully ambient wine shop and bar delivers customers an atmosphere that is both quiet in tone and classic in design. Both tranquility in location and quiet in tone are captured by the fact The Cellar is in the calm surroundings of Jida, Shui Wan Tou residential area so customers can feel at ease within the elegant stone walls and crafted wooden space that is The Cellar’s burgundy-like interior.
The Cellar’s owner Thomas Kaeppelin spoke more about the internal mechanics of The Cellar, which is the only wine cellar in Zhuhai that is owned by a foreigner, “Well, I opened The Cellar in May 2007 and Zhuhai is notorious for being a place that businesses frequently open and then close sometimes within the same season, so I am happy to announce The Cellar is still here and is doing well. I believe the success of The Cellar is down to the unique setting it administers, such as the use of the alluring LED lighting, which is important as CFL bulbs give off too much heat and create a risk of spoiling the wine. Another key feature to The Cellar’s interior is the wooden seats and table that are sculptured right here in China. What I do not include in any of the inner-design is plastic, because I prefer noble materials such as wood, stone and metal. Obviously selling and serving great wine is important, but the physical appearance of where it should be drank is also of significance. Locations such as The Cellar have been used for over the past two hundred years as places to gather and exchange ideas, so it is of great magnitude these places have an environment that is attractive”, stated Mr. Kaeppelin. And The Cellar is just that. It’s a practical space that is extraordinary to behold and possess an interior that parallels a bygone era.
Now onto the wine, which is a phenomenon that has been rarely explored by the local population in Zhuhai. The Cellar provides the Zhuhai people a chance to educate both their knowledge and palate. For example, it is an official procedure that in order to preserve good condition and potential ageing, wines must be stored in a dark room, with no vibrations nor direct light exposure, and at a constant humidity and temperature. The Cellar yields all these important aspects, which makes it truly a perfect spot to visit again and again for not just a wine connoisseur, but anyone who wants to improve their taste for wine. For all wine lovers, The Cellar exclusively sells the excellent, full bodied and mildly spicy Château Fontsainte from Corbières.
So whether it’s expensive, chilled wine or average priced wines with general tendencies, The Cellar is the best place to absorb arguably the greatest wine experience Zhuhai has to offer. The Cellar is proven to be a place where both palate and history are educated.
The LED lighting illuminates The Cellar magnificently with an apricot tint, which transports customers to a European venture that will entice and capture both the local Chinese and foreign population. The resonance of sound within The Cellar is powered by the superb Classé system, which is owned and operated by the British audio company Bowers & Wilkins. Also to conclude, Mr. Kaeppelin has spoke of his future plans of improving an appetising menu at The Cellar to be enjoyed along with the spectacular selections of wine on offer.
