The Vienna Boys Choir 2016 Asia Tour will commence at Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou this golden autumn. It has been almost two years since this best known choir’s last visit to Canton. To celebrate their return, Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou join hands with the Vienna Boys Choir to present their classic musical performance for their fans at the hotel on 22 and 25 September 2016.
The world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Philharmonic are known as Austria’s two national treasures. The Vienna Boys Choir enjoys a history of over 500 years, with a well-established tradition in professional musical education and vocal training. It consists of four touring choirs, each of which is named after one gifted Austrian composer associated with the choir’s history, namely, Bruckner, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert.
Each of the four choirs takes up different touring routes every year. For example, the Haydn choir visited Guangzhou in 2014 and wowed an audience of more than 800 in the hotel’s 5,800 sqm garden. This year, the Haydn choir will perform in Germany, a much closer destination to Austria with equally rich history in classical music.
For the 2016 Asia Tour, the Bruckner choir shall continue the legend of the Vienna Boys Choir. It currently has 24 members with a truly international profile, as the boys come from Europe, Asia, America, Oceania and Africa. As the tradition goes, each season, the entire Vienna Boys Choir says farewell to a number of members who move on to the next stage of their study and welcomes new kids. This season, the Bruckner choir is pleased to welcome 11 new members, one of whom is from Shanghai.
Given the Vienna Boys Choir’s touring pattern, the odds for Canton music fans to meet the same group of boys in two years are low. Therefore, each experience with the choir in one touring destination is always unique. This is definitely one more convincing reason to enjoy every single performance with the Vienna Boys Choir.
This year, the performance by these talented young boys will be presented in two different settings at Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou.
The first one is “An Evening with Vienna Boys Choi—Gala Dinner” in the Guangzhou Ballroom from 6 to 9 p.m. on 22 September 2016. This truly fantastic East-Meets-West occasion begins with Vienna Boys Choir presenting a repertoire of Western classics, followed by Cantonese gastronomy prepared by the hotel’s talented culinary team. It will be a pleasant gathering with fans of melodic chorus and gourmet food. The admission fee is at RMB388 nett per person and the dress code is business casual.
The second performance, which is the hotel’s signature event, is “Music in the Park with Vienna Boys Choir” in the garden from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on 25 September 2016. This family-oriented outdoor concert with the Vienna Boys Choir and visiting bands is a picnic-style gathering with a selection of barbecue items on the beautiful lawn. The Vienna Boys Choir will present a repertoire especially for an enjoyable autumn Sunday brunch. The admission fee is at RMB 250 nett per person and free for children under 4 years old.
